We spoke with Jason Barlow, President of TUMI, about NetRate Systems and how the program administrator is using NetRate’s Commercial Lines Rating product. Jason has a varied background in the commercial transportation industry over the last 17 years. He spent 12 years as a retailer producer, sales manager, and president of a very large commercial transportation agency.

NetRate is really the best rating system I’ve worked with and I’ve worked with several company rating systems. I couldn’t be happier. It’s a very flexible rating system; it’s extremely user-friendly, very logical, and has helped our business grow. It’s also kept our business rated properly. Our whole business is matching rating with exposures and with a quality rating system this is just much easier. We can actually trust it.

He also worked at a national MGA handling the firm’s marketing, program development, IT systems, rating issuance systems, and operations prior to founding TUMI in 2008.

Jason was using a competitive rating system when he first established TUMI. The system was not integrated with his management system, and he was very dissatisfied. There was a great deal of double entry involved, the system had many bugs, and it was far from being ISO-compliant.

We needed to change our rating system, and discovered that NetRate was integrated with MGA Systems and the IMS product. We purchased NetRate and worked with them to customize the integration for TUMI. We quickly discovered that NetRate was a superior product and became very happy that we made the change, explained Jason.

What’s more, when we purchased NetRate three years ago, we were in 37 states, and today we are in 48, so we’ve added several states over the last few years. Adding a state with NetRate is very easy; it’s pain-free to get a state up and running and integrated with our management system.

With NetRate, TUMI has complete integration with its management system, ISO-compliance so that very little has to be done for reporting purposes to carriers, and less downtime because of the superior rating. When there is a problem, said Jason, we find that their customer service is very responsive and they get the issues resolved immediately.

In fact, NetRate is really the best rating system I’ve worked with and I’ve worked with several company rating systems. I couldn’t be happier. It’s a very flexible rating system; it’s extremely user-friendly, very logical, and has helped our business grow. It’s also kept our business rated properly. Our whole business is matching rating with exposures, and with a quality rating system, this is just much easier. We can actually trust it.
